Avatar: The Last Airbender
Tales of the Future ch. 1

It had been 5 years since the end of the century long war. Peace had

come out of the depths of shadows and shown itself again after the

long wait of violence and agony. The Avatar had restored balance to

the world. The Air Nomad temples had begun restoration, along with

the Southern Water Tribe. Everything the Fire Nation had upset was

being repaired, and things were gradually going back to normal.

                             *****************

"I'm sorry Sokka, but I have duties to fulfill in my own country.

I wish I could stay, but I must return to Kyoshi Island."

Sokka couldn't believe it. Suki had been with him for over 5 years.

How could she just up and leave him like that? He.... loved her. "Suki,

please don't do this. We've been through so much together. There has

to be something you could do that would make it so we could stay

together."

Suki gave him a pained look. "No, Sokka. Long distance

relationships never work out. I promise I will visit Ba Sing Se as much

as possible, but I think it would be best if we moved on." She paused

to kiss him lightly on the cheek. "All we can be is friends."

Tears began to well up in Sokka's eyes. He wished this was all

just a nightmare. That Suki wouldn't be gone when he woke up the next

morning. That everything would be how it was meant to be, how he had

always invisioned his future with her.

"I'll prabably be gone when you wake up..... so I guess this is

goodbye Sokka," said Suki as she thrust her arms around his neck. He

wished the moment could have lasted longer.

"Bye Suki," said Sokka as he watched her walk down the hall

towards her room. Everyone else was asleep, so the only thing he could

do now was go to bed. He drug himself to his room and reluctantly pulled

off his clothes and crept into the blankets in his bed, knowing that when he

woke up, his girlfriend wouldn't be there.

                          *******************

Could it really be true? Could Suki really be dumping Sokka? Toph

thought to herself as she lay wide awake on her bed. She had overheard the

whole conversation, and the entire time, a glimmer of hope had sparked

inside her.

Toph always liked Sokka. Ever since she was 12, she had

developed a huge crush on him. As time went by though, she could sense

how much Sokka really loved Suki. Toph knew she was in love with

Sokka, but that would have never worked with Suki around. But with Suki

leaving for Kyoshi Island, maybe she finally had a chance to tell Sokka how

she really felt.

                               ***********************

"How do I look?" asked Katara as she twirled around for Aang in

her flowing royal blue dress. "Not too bad right?"

Aang was almost speechless. He never thought she could look more

beautiful. "You look gorgeous Katara."

Katara blushed. "You don't think it's too fancy do you? I mean, it's

just Zuko's wedding."

"No, I think it's perfect. Besides, it is a Royal wedding, and they

probably expect people to be dressed up."

"Yeah, you're probably right," said Katara. "So, what are you going

to wear?"

"I'll show you," said Aang as he went into his own room to put on

the outfit. Okay, it's now or never, he thought to himself. How hard could

it be? He pulled on the outfit, then opened the drawer where he kept the

betrothal necklace he had spent months carving for Katara. He pulled it

out carefully by the ribbon and walked back to Katara's room.

"Oh Aang you look wonderful," said Katara when she saw him

come into the room. Aang blushed at the comment.

"Uhhh... Katara, I have something to ask you," said Aang. He was

so nervous he didn't know if he could go throgh with this. He rubbed the

back of his neck with his hand absentmindedly.

"What is it Aang?" Katara had a concerned look on her face. She

had no idea what could be bothering him. They were going to have fun at

the Royal Wedding in a few hours, so he had no reason to be worried.

Aang put on a brave face. Here I go... he thought. "Katara, I love

you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you." He pulled out the

necklace and held it up. "Will you accept this betrothal necklace?"

Now it was Katara who was speechless. "Oh Aang... I love you

too! Yes, yes I will accept the necklace!" she said excitedly as Aang

clipped the handmade jewelry around her neck. She took off the

necklace that she wore from her mother and placed it in a jewelry box

in her dresser. Then she turned and embraced Aang with a kiss.

                     **********************

Katara had helped Toph pick out a dress to wear for the

wedding that night. Toph just hoped it wasn't too girly. It had

been a month since Suki had broken up with Sokka, and he was

eventually able to accept it. Toph just hoped he could give her a

chance somehow, and tonight might be that oppertunity.

                   *********************

The ceremony wasn't too long in Toph's opinion. It was

just boring. Everyone walked so slow, the music was slow, and

the minister spoke agonizingly slow. She was happy to get to the

reception afterwards.

Of course, by then she knew that Aang had proposed to

Katara and they were now betrothed. So they were slow dancing

almost glued to each other the whole time. From the vibrations

though, Toph could tell they danced well with each other.

Soon she was able to locate Sokka. She would know his

footsteps anywhere. He was standing in the corner, alone. "Some

party, huh?" she said, trying not to seem nervous.

"Yeah," said Sokka without any enthusiasm. There was an

awkward silence. Toph decided to break it.

"So you wanna dance or what?" she asked, and before he could

answer, she was pulling him across the dancefloor by the wrist.

                     **********************

"Toph wait, I don't feel like..." before he could answer she had

him with a death grip by the wrist and was dragging him onto the

dancefloor past Katara and Aang and Mai and Zuko.

For being blind Toph wasn't half bad at dancing. Actually in

Sokka's opinion, she was pretty good. He had never noticed before,

but she had the most beautiful jade eyes he had ever seen. The dress

she wore brought them out. Her hair was wavy and fell down to her

waist. It flowed nicely as they moved. Honestly, Sokka was realizing,

as they swayed, just how beautiful Toph really was.
Okay, this is my first A:TLA fan fiction so I am not very experienced! Please feel free to comment. Tell me your opinions on the piece and ways I can improve. This is only chapter 1, so there will be more to come!

Oh, and by the way, I support Tokka and Kataang so if you don't like this fic because of the ships, I totally understand. People will ship what they please. :)

Also, I double spaced when I typed this, so that's why it looks so messed up. (Grrrrr...)

Enjoy!!

this is great! Much better than mine (don't read mine trust me) i'm going to add you to my watch list but one thing is bugging me how could Toph help Katara pick out her dress if she can't see?
